The Prewitt-Brewer Family
This video clip was taken from Extreme Makeover Home Edition, which is a show on ABC that helps to rebuild homes for families in need. On this specific episode, the Prewitt-Brewer family shares about the tremendous obstacles and devastating circumstances the children were placed into at such a young age. Fortunately, Carrie Prewitt was able to save them and place them into a loving environment. This story connects to my argument through the heroic and selfless actions taken by the motherly figures. As we were informed by the video, the children's parents were victims of drug overdose. They made a series of self centered actions that resulted in temporary personal satisfaction, which is similar to how Walter reacts to many situations in A Raisin in the Sun. Both Walter and the parents of the Prewitt-Brewer children seemed to care more about personal satisfaction rather than the happiness of their own families. Additionally, in both situations the motherly figures have been the saviors of the children. Lena helped to rebuild Walters life, while Carrie helped to rebuild the lives of the three children she adopted. In the end, the creation of a strong family relationship was the solution to an overwhelming amount of problems.
