Lean on Me
By: Bill Withers
The song I choose was "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers. I felt as though this song is a good connection to A Raisin in the Sun because of the difficult times the Younger family had to deal with. As an African American family, the Younger family faced extreme racism and discrimination. They financial struggled to make ends meet, causing some family members to lose focus of what is important in life. Each person in the family just needed someone to "Lean On" and be there for them. During these difficult times, family is the most important aspect in a person's life. If there is nobody to lean on for support, the difficult times become even worse. Similar to the relationship seen in A Raisin in the Sun, Lena is there for Walter when he needs to lean on her for support regarding the downfall of his liquor store dream. This is what family is all about; being there for one another when they need it most.
